Description
Diatomaceous Earth contains fossilized remains of diatoms which can be used to control many insect pests. Diatoms are aquatic invertebrates that have cell walls made of silica. When diatoms die, their bodies accumulate into particle aggregates called marine snow. Once these particles reach a certain size, they sink to the bottom of the ocean and accumulate as diatomaceous earth.
This Diatomaceous Earth formulation is food grade and can also be used in animal feed as a pelleting agent or anti-caking agent. The silica composition of DE kills insects by ingestion or contact with the powder, which cuts the exoskeleton and causes dehydration within 48 hours. Because there are no chemicals, insects cannot build a resistance to it. It will effectively control ants, earwigs, cockroaches, silverfish, crickets, fleas, millipedes and centipedes.
